Taking Time for ME

I'm baaaaaaack!

Four months ago today, I began what I've been referring to as a "wee sabbatical".  The reality is, I quit my job of 16 years.  There was no scandal, no drama and I didn't hate it.  Quite simply, I had lost my passion for it.  There were several other contributing factors to finally pulling that trigger, but that was the underlying theme.  Matt and I had many conversations to make sure that the timing was right and that we could manage financially.  The stars aligned and well, here I am.

Not earning my own paycheck - VOLUNTARILY - is scary for sure.  Switching around benefits coverage is also scary - especially when it wasn't a smooth transition from my insurance to my husband's. Not one single day has gone by so far that I've had any kind of regret, though.

Since my cancer diagnosis almost 6 years ago (SIX!?), I've developed a host of other medical issues, which I've mentioned previously.  Part of my goal during this time off is to get my health back on track.  No, I don't have a cancer recurrence but I'd sure like to avoid one.

I've been pretty lax overall over the last few months and have managed to gain weight.  Big surprise.  During a recent visit with my doctor, she recommended an AIP diet (auto-immune paleo) to help control some of my pain and inflammation.  It's hardcore in terms of limitations and let's face it, I'm not known for my strong will power, but I'm going to try. I HAVE to try.

So, here we go.  Again.  Still.  Whatever.  I'm giving this diet the 30 days that my doctor recommended and hope I don't cave. Since I'm home, I have no excuse but to stick to it AND to journal/blog.

Just for funsies, I have a super-awesome "before" pic, but I'll wait to unveil that little nugget until I don't actually look like it! (It can't be considered a "before" pic when it's really a "current state" pic, right?)

Wish me luck.  God knows I need it.  My amazing wit and humor may be the only things that keep me sane. Ha...

  4. Hi Deb!
I downloaded "The Paleo Approach" by Sarah Ballantyne. It seems to be the one that sites cite the most.
